Jeff Daye wrapped up the number one slot in the Labor Day Fun Meet held at Blairstown, NJ. Daye flew an virtual perfect contest and gave up only 30 points out of the possible 2000. Day one was a 31/68/107mile TAT with four fairly close in turnpoints. Weather was hazy, ceilling averaging 4000 and lift in the two knot range. The cloud cover deep cycled all afternoon and kept eleven of the twelve planes from completing the course.
Day two was an unexpected great day. Not only did we get cloud bases to 4000, but the southeast side of the ridge was working all day. Contest Director Jacquie Doherty sent us thirty miles down ridge on a two hour MAT. Everybody made it back and nobody had any really scary stories about ridge monsters. Dave Piotrowski lead the pack today, on his first real on-the-trees ridge flight. It's going to be hard to how him back.
It ended Jeff Daye first, Dave Piotrowski second and the team of Jonathan Leal and Chip Johanson taking third place.
Some old friends, some new friends, barbecue, pizza and dinner out, lots of BS and even a hike thrown in for good measure all made for a meet that went as advertised: FUN, and that's what it's all about.
