KNOWN 1-26 FLIGHTS WHICH EXCEED 400 STATUTE MILES
This project was brought on because of the increasing complexity of recognizing some of the
best flights of our past and present members. Over the years we have added recognitions and awards plus their associated
listings. Apparently some of our members have not noticed the large listing of
flights which exceed 500Km. Flights overlap from list to list, but a few of the very best flights don't fit into the any
of our popular lists. Recently, four-hundred miles seems to have become the most discussed breakpoint, so that is what I
chose.
No additional awards, records, or similar are created here; but this list would include all past and future 400-plus mile
flights made for any reason. Nearly 56 years of 1-26 history are already included, and I know there will be more additions.
2009 was a banner year for long-distance 1-26 flights, so perhaps this is an appropriate time to recognize all these pilots
and their flying accomplishments.
My thanks to Ron Schwartz, our record keeper, and to Kevin Ford, his predecessor, whose help made this possible. Thanks also
to several pilots on the list who helped get things right and to Jo who offered research help and other enthusiastic
assistance. Between Jo and I, a lot of old Newsletter pages have been turned!
