Day 2
At the 1-26 National Championships, Thursday, Friday and Saturday were all no-
contest days due to hot, hazy and humid weather contributing to stable conditions.
Late Saturday a weak front came through and cleared things out, so they launched the grid
on Sunday for the second official contest day. Today (Monday) looks good for another, while a front
expected on Tuesday could dampen things. However, the final day on Wednesday looks good so far. There
was only one finisher yesterday (Pat Tucky). Day 1 was a POST task while Sunday's was a 65 mile out
and return. Since the conditions were expected to be weak (93F/80% humidity) the director designed the
turnpoint to be easily landable, but most pilots ended up landing just short of the airport after rounding the TP
as conditions improved a bit. Here are the totals so far (unofficial) for the top 10:
PILOT NAME: TOTAL PTS.: CUM. POSITION: Bill Vickland 1800 1 Marv Willis 1669 2 Bob Quas 1659 3 Bob Gravanse 1576 4 Harry Senn/Tom Hollerand 1574 5 Kevin Ford 1569 6 Bob Hurni 1561 7 Ron Almquist 1469 8 Pat Tucky 1433 9 Gerry Chambers 1401 10
Day 3
On Monday, July 1, the contestants were sent out on a 2 hour POST task. Weak conditions prevailed
under a shelf of cirrus resulting in an unseating of the previous top three pilots. Tuesday was a no-
contest day due to overdevelopment, but Wednesday looks like it might be the best day weather-wise.
