1-26 Poem

By Russell Hornsby (14 years old)

Sleek and Sturdy,
Gleamy and not dirty,
Fast, sleek, smooth, and clean
Can’t help to look without a gleam,
It is my favorite glider,
I flat out love to fly her,

Enjoy the altitude,
I always have a good attitude,
When I take the controls,
And chase exciting goals,
It is small, medium sized,
I very soon realized,

Once I flew her, I stayed up,
For about 45 minutes, I wasn’t any pup,
I let this aircraft dive to the ground,
Then pull up and swing her around,
I felt as if it was alive,
This performance aircraft is no jive,

I experienced love at first sight,
Therefore my future with it is so bright,
Over the radio, I shout "woo-hoo",
I finally realized I had a clue,
About how awesome this glider is,
I can take her up and fly like a whiz,

I couldn’t fly her last week,
I felt so bad I thought I would leak,
I soon realized there would be a next time,
And I was the pilot next in line,
I can’t wait to fly her next weekend,
Me and the 1-26, flying in the wind.
